Becoming a Loran scholar is a life-changing experience. Loran scholars are given access to networks, mentors, volunteers and other scholars, all of whom are committed to ensuring that they have a rich experience during their four years of undergraduate study.

It is our hope that all of our Loran scholars use their university years to fully engage in the process of learning – about themselves, the world around them, and the kinds of contributions they want to make. We hope that they allow their curiosity to lead them down different paths, nurturing the breadth and depth of experiences that contribute to their growth as leaders and active citizens. There is great diversity amongst Loran scholars, but one quality that is common among them all is the commitment to taking on significant and meaningful responsibilities so that their university and broader communities are improved by their efforts and contributions.

It is the responsibility of our Loran scholars to meet university and program admission requirements. The minimum obligation academically is for a cumulative average of no less than B+ (3.3 on a 4.3 scale) throughout their university career. As well, acceptance of an award carries with it an obligation to be an engaged citizen on and off campus and make a significant contribution to the well-being of the community.
